During the winter holidays, it’s said that Americans generate 25 percent more trash than at any other time of the year.

To keep those discards out of the landfill, Bainbridge Island Zero Waste has just published its 2014 Holiday Recycling Guide. Go to the Zero Waste website at sustainablebainbridge.org for a list of commonly tossed items.

Seasonally specific recycling opportunities include taking broken strings of lights to Ace Hardware through Feb. 15; dropping off Styrofoam at Bay Hay and Feed Jan. 10-11; and reserving Christmas tree pick-up by Boy Scout Troop 1564 on Jan. 10.
