UPDATE | Search crew finds man who went overboard from ferry

A search-and-rescue crew from the Coast Guard has found the man who went overboard from the ferry M/V Wenatchee during the vessel’s sailing to Bainbridge Island Tuesday afternoon.

The man’s condition was not immediately known.

Travelers on the ferry to Bainbridge said the man jumped off the back end of the lower car deck and into Puget Sound as the Wenatchee was nearing Bainbridge Island on the 1:10 p.m. sailing from Seattle.

The Wenatchee then stopped as the ferry launched crew members in small inflatable crafts to search for the missing man.

Donna Etchey, publisher of the Bainbridge Review, was on the Wenatchee and said the ferry crew said the man was found shortly after 2 p.m.

A passenger aboard the ferry M/V Kitsap from Seattle to Bremerton reportedly sighted the missing man in the water, and he was pulled from Puget Sound by the Coast Guard.

The incident has led to delays on the Bainbridge Island-Seattle route. The Wenatchee turned back to Seattle to pick up its small craft before the vessel continued on to Bainbridge Island. The ferry is expected to arrive at the Bainbridge terminal before 2:30 p.m.
