Waterfront Park Community Center to get solar panels

Work has started on the installation of a solar panel system at the Waterfront Park Community Center.
City officials said the system will include 16 solar energy panels with the ability to produce up to 5,070 kilowatt hours of energy per year, the equivalent of burning 3,755 pounds of coal.
The installation project is expected to continue through the end of the year, and the city said residents may notice work continuing from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
The project is partially funded through Puget Sound Energy’s Green Power Program grant.
The city was awarded a $20,000 grant for its participation in PSE’S Take Charge Green Power Challenge in 2013.
City officials said the grant would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the residents of Bainbridge Island and support from Sustainable Bainbridge.
