Suspected Bainbridge Island brothel has disbanded, police say

Bainbridge Police believe a group of women operated a brothel out of a south-island home for several months before moving away in April, according to BIPD Lt. Sue Shultz.

Shultz said police were investigating the residence, but hadn’t gathered enough evidence to make arrests for prostitution.

At least three women at the home were taking visitors at all hours and the house was a site of constant activity, Shultz said.

According to Shultz, the residents may have learned of the police investigation and been spooked into disbanding. The home is now vacant.

None of the three women under investigation were from Bainbridge.

Shultz said information gathered during a Jan. 31 prostitution sting on Bainbridge aided the investigation into the suspected brothel.

“We were developing evidence, and that’s one of the things that came from the prostitution case,” Shultz said.

According to Shultz, BIPD does is not currently conducting any other ongoing prostitution investigations.
