Bainbridge teen escapes injury in DUI crash

An 18-year-old Bainbridge Island woman escaped injury after being hit by an impaired driver early Saturday morning in Belfair.

The Washington State Patrol reported the accident occurred on Old Belfair Highway at Riverside Plaza at 12:51 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.

The collision happened after a 25-year-old Belfair man in a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse heading north on the highway failed to negotiate a turn, crossed into the southbound lane, and hit the Bainbridge driver’s 2014 Dodge Ram pickup as she was traveling south.

The Belfair man was injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital at Harrison Bremerton. His vehicle was totaled and was impounded by Northshore Tow.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the Belfair man will be charged with driving under the influence.
