Bainbridge school board selects Seattle architect for new Blakely school

The Bainbridge Island School Board has selected an architect to lead the replacement of Captain Johnston Blakely Elementary School.

At their April 14 meeting, board members voted to approve Mithun Architects, the Seattle-based firm that designed the educational structures and trail systems at IslandWood.

The architect selection process for Blakely began in February, with the search committee putting out a request for qualifications. Seven firms attended a mandatory walkthrough meeting at Blakely on Feb. 25 and six of those firms submitted statements of qualifications.

The architect selection committee ultimately selected four firms — Bassetti, NAC, Mahlum and Mithun — for interviews, which were conducted on March 21. On March 29, Mithun and Mahlum were both invited to conduct
