The Bainbridge Island Police Department is investigating a rash of island home burglaries.

The suspect (or suspects) have burglarized at least eight homes in recent weeks between midnight and 6 a.m. and appears to be gaining entry through unlocked front doors.

“Initially the burglaries were in the Wing Point area, but now they are moving out towards other areas of the island,” said BIPD Cmdr. Sue Shultz.

The suspect appears to be taking items like purses, wallets and smaller items from plain sight while residents are home. It is believed that the burglar may be traveling on foot.

The public is asked to contact 911 if they see anyone walking in residential areas during late-night hours and asked residents to lock the doors of their homes and vehicles.

Anyone with information regarding these and other crimes on Bainbridge Island is encouraged to call (206) 842-5211.
