Former Rite Aid on BI converted to CVS Pharmacy

On Sept. 29, the Rite Aid on Bainbridge Island closed its doors and reopened Sept. 30 as a CVS Pharmacy.

Following the retail chain’s May 5 bankruptcy, many stores have been sold or shuttered altogether. As of Sept. 26, Rite Aid has 54 stores nationwide with seven stores in Washington. The Bainbridge Island location was the last store to close in Kitsap County.

Customers’ prescriptions will also be transferred to CVS automatically, and patients have the option to transfer their prescriptions from CVS if they so choose. All former Bainbridge Rite Aid colleagues, including nine pharmacy team members and eight retail team members, have been hired by the chain, CVS spokesperson Amy Thibault said.

CVS doesn’t intend to operate any additional former Rite Aid locations in Kitsap County, Thiabault said. CVS also declined to specify how many customers they intend to serve on Bainbridge Island or if the chain hired any additional former Rite Aid employees from other closed Rite Aid stores.

Former Rite Aid Rapid Rewards customers won’t be able to redeem any previous offers and will need to sign up for CVS ExtraCare and ExtraCare+ programs, Thiabualt said.

In terms of product offerings, CVS will be introducing Well Market™ consumable line featuring snacks, beverages, and groceries. CVS will also allow customers to shop online and offer in-store pickup.
