Deets for re-election
To the editor:
I care a lot about the future of Bainbridge Island, especially when it comes to protecting our environment. Even though I’m still a student and not old enough to vote, I want to share why I support re-electing Joe Deets to City Council.
Deets has shown that sustainability isn’t just a word for him, but it’s something he has delivered. He helped bring solar energy to City Hall, and he worked on Washington’s community solar law so more people could access clean energy. That matters to me because the choices we make now will decide what kind of island future generations grow up on. I want to see Bainbridge continue to lead on climate action, and Deets is the kind of person who makes that possible.
I also respect that Deets doesn’t just talk about issues; he listens. He makes himself available every week for office hours so people can share their concerns directly. That kind of accessibility is very useful, and it shows he values community input on decisions that affect all of us.
Re-electing Deets means keeping a voice on the council that prioritizes clean energy, sustainability, and fairness for the future. Bainbridge is a great place, and I believe Deets has the vision and commitment to keep it that way.
Please join me in supporting Deets for re-election.

To the editor:
Local government is more important than ever, and I recognize and appreciate the effort and courage it takes to step up and lead our community. Most issues before City Council are far more complex than they may appear on the surface, which is why thoughtful leadership matters.
I value Joe Deets’ ability to truly listen to residents. His regular “office hours” at Cups Espresso are a testament to his commitment. He takes time with each person who shows up, and I have seen firsthand how he incorporates the insights he gains from those conversations into relevant council discussions and decisions.
I have also had the opportunity to work alongside Joe, other councilmembers, the mayor, and city staff in developing a strong set of short-term rental regulations that could serve as a model for other communities. Our city and our state are navigating unprecedented budget, environmental, and social challenges. In these times, we benefit from experienced leaders who know our community and have a proven record of service.
Joe is a known entity with a public voting record and years of council service that he can be proud of. Thank you, Joe, for your steady leadership and dedication to Bainbridge Island. May it continue.
