The city and Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District are working together to engage the public as each agency is developing its individual American Disabilities Act transition plans to identify and remove barriers to accessibility across the island.
There is an online public survey now available, giving community members the opportunity to share input that will directly inform the development of the city and park district’s separate ADA plans, per a news release. Under ADA, public entities that manage facilities used by the public are required to maintain a transition plan. The plans must outline how facilities will be assessed and improved to meet federal accessibility standards.
“By working together, we hope to reach more community members and develop stronger, more inclusive plans,” city manager Blair King said.
Dan Hamlin, parks district executive director, added, “This collaboration ensures that voices from across the island help shape accessibility improvements in both civic and recreational spaces.”
