The community is invited to a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Bainbridge Island, and City Manager Doug Schulze is encouraging island residents to celebrate this historic moment.
“As an all-island city government we are young, but as a community our roots are deep and span generations,” he said. “We hope that you will join us in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the city of Bainbridge Island, and that you will continue to be engaged in our community for years to come.”
The event is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 in the city hall council chamber.
On Feb. 28, 1991 the city became an all-island government. City officials said the last 25 years have brought about much change, including a new city hall, a revitalized Winslow Way, a new form of government and the opportunity for all islanders to have the ability to determine the future of Bainbridge Island.
In addition to enjoying cake and refreshments, this will be an opportunity to acknowledge all who have served the community, whether as a council or commission member or as an active citizen.
It will also be an opportunity for residents to reflect on the progress made by the all-island city government in the last 25 years.
There will be a short presentation by current Mayor Val Tollefson and past city council members.
