Plant sale proceeds to support garden | Letters | April 29

The Bloedel Reserve wishes to send great appreciation and thanks to the communities of Bainbridge Island and the greater Olympic Peninsula for their tremendous support of our Premier Plant Sale held last weekend.

The proceeds of the sale provided much-needed support for The Reserve’s horticulture program to restore many areas of the garden, and benefitted all the participating nurseries and growers at a time when many small businesses are faced with economic challenges.

Despite the chilly weather, plant enthusiasts turned out in record numbers to browse and purchase choice selections from one dozen nurseries and growers, as well as plants propagated and grown at The Reserve.

In addition, many other visitors took advantage of the waived admission fee to see The Reserve for the first time.

We hope that many of these first-time visitors will come back to visit The Reserve during the summer and fall.

In all, we welcomed a record-breaking 3,275 visitors during the 18-hour event, including the Friday evening preview sale for Bloedel Reserve members.

Every member of The Reserve’s staff worked hard to make the event a success, and we are pleased to say that the response from all who attended and participated was overwhelmingly positive.
