The Spartans bats came alive and starting pitcher McCrea Curfman only let up one hit in Bainbridge’s (5-1, 5-0 in Olympic League) 17-0 home win over the Kingston Buccaneers (2-5, 1-4 OL) March 31.
Curfman pitched four scoreless innings, not letting up a hit until the fourth inning on the Spartans’ Little League Day.
“It’s a fun day to do it with the little league kids here. It feels good to just get out there and play,” Curfman said.
The Spartan bats didn’t take long to get going, tallying five runs on two hits and three Kingston errors in the bottom of the first.
Henry Olsen hit a solo home run to left-center field, adding to the Spartans’ lead. Curfman continued his strong game, not allowing a hit within the first three innings of play. Bainbridge got its lead out to 10-0 by the end of the third inning.
Curfman’s perfect game attempt ended in the top of the fourth after Buccaneer Hudson Bliss was hit by a pitch and Vaka Tameilau gave the Bucs their first hit on the game with a single to left field.
“(I) just wanted to come in and throw strikes,” Curfman said.
Spartan Tenzing Dikman hit a two-RBI single to left field, giving Bainbridge a 16-0 lead. Dom D’Amico added another RBI single to Bainbridge’s total.
Bainbridge made a pitching change to kick off the fifth inning, subbing in Toby Kessler for Curfman. The game ended after the fifth inning due to the ten-run rule.
“This is by far his best performance; (he) threw a lot of strikes,” Bainbridge coach Thomas Henshaw said. “He wants to compete all the time.”
