BARN volunteers help construct new library sign

For many years, Bainbridge Island Friends of the Library has posted dates and times of upcoming book sales on a simple sandwich board near the library’s High School Road entrance. While the location is ideal, its proximity to a sidewalk frequented by people who enjoy rearranging the letters has become problematic.
“It’s amazing how many inappropriate words can be made out of 12 letters,” said Betsy Bidinger, FOL board president. “We’ve wanted a new sign for years!”
A group of Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network volunteers, led by David Grant, stepped up to fill the need. A heavy-duty wooden sign featuring a copper roof to shield it from the elements and a glass cover with a lock was recently installed with the help of Kip Bankart and Jim McKeever from the library.
The sign was designed by Warren Pollock. The lettering was made by Al Ebken on BARN’s computer numerical control equipment. The copper roof was created by Linda Sohlberg. Grant handled the construction and installation.
