North Kitsap tennis has secured at least three state entries this spring and the Vikings were crowned district champions Nov. 2 at the Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center.

Doubles duo Grady DeVries and Spencer Gillespie battled their way to the district title match, eventually falling 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 to Nathan Basden and Luke Flodstrom from Port Angeles.

Vikings Mason Repp and Justin Gallant, whom DeVries and Gillespie bested in the semifinals 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, would go on to take third place in a 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 come-from-behind victory over Miles Ducharme and Jacob Patten from Fife.

Rocco Targett and Aiden Reister will stand by as a state alternate after taking fifth place over the weekend.

Three different Kitsap schools will be represented out of the singles bracket. Olympic’s Jonah Pantig took first place after beating NK’s Indigo Gallagher Zapf 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals. Pantig’s championship opponent, Killian Farooqi of Steilacoom, was unable to compete in the finale, making Pantig the winner.

Joseph Cao from Bremerton worked his way to a third-place finish, and Gallagher Zapf placed fourth. NK’s Dayshawn Harper will serve as an alternate.
