SEATTLE – Bainbridge blasted the Beavers 10-4 in girls varsity fastpitch softball last Tuesday to advance to the Metro League Championship Game at Southwest Athletic Complex.
The Spartans jumped to a 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning and never trailed in a rematch between two of the Metro Mountain’s best teams.
Ballard finally put a run on the board in the fourth, but Bainbridge answered with two more runs in the fifth.
The Beavers strung together three one-run innings to follow, but it wasn’t enough to challenge BHS.
Malia Peato was the winning pitcher for Bainbridge. She went seven innings and allowed seven hits while striking out six Ballard batters.
Olivia Wickstrom fueled the Bainbridge offense on 2-of-4 batting that brought in three runs. Wickstrom scored a run, as well.
Other standout Spartans:
Megan Spray went 1-for-3, with a triple, RBI and two runs.
Sara Colley was 3-for-4, with runs.
Peato finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
The win over Ballard was big: The Beavers were one of the few teams to stop the Spartans in the regular season, by notching a 4-2 victory on April 20.
In the game for the Metro title, the Spartans (8-2 Metro, 17-3 overall) will again face formidable foe Holy Names Academy (9-1, 19-3).
The Spartans split this year with HNA, with a 7-5 win last Monday, May 1 followed by a 3-1 loss last Friday, May 3.
The rematch — in the championship game — begins at 7 p.m.
