Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

FRIDAY, DEC. 16

10:27 p.m. A 41-year-old Bainbridge Island man was arrested after allegedly committing an assault on a woman on the ferry who police know to be his girlfriend.

Vessel officials notified police that they had detained several individuals who had been fighting on the boat as it began to dock on Bainbridge Island.

Police arrived, only to be told by several people disembarking the ferry that a man in a tan jacket, running away from the scene, was the one who had caused the disturbance. A foot chase ensued, and the man was detained. Officers knew him from previous interactions, and his girlfriend as well.

After taking witness statements police learned the man had punched his girlfriend on the boat, though neither she nor he admitted such a thing had occurred.

Upon contacting the on-call county prosecutor, police arrested the island man for fourth-degree assault.
