The number of power outages on Bainbridge Island continued to grow Friday as high winds battered the Puget Sound region into the early afternoon.

More than 2,500 homes were left without power on Bainbridge just after 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The largest new power outage was reported on the south end of the island, from Eagle Harbor Drive NE south to Fort Ward and Pleasant Village.

The south end lost power just before noon, and 768 customers were affected, according to Puget Sound Energy.

PSE has not yet estimated when power will be restored.

Much of the north end of the island is also without electricity.

The area from Agate Passage Bridge to just north of Day Road is without power, and PSE estimated that 858 customers lost electricity just after noon Friday.

Just to the south, 90 homes in the Hidden Cove area were without power, along with more than 900 homes and businesses from Day Road south to the Grand Forest.

PSE said nearly 32,000 customers in Western Washington were without electricity just after 1:30 p.m. Friday.
