THURSDAY, SEPT. 22
4:54 p.m. A woman reported an attempted fraud regarding a Bainbridge Island real estate listing.
She had recently moved to the area, the woman said, and was searching for an apartment to rent on Bainbridge. She found a Craigslist ad for one she liked and contacted the property owner.
The woman filled out the requested rental application, but became suspicious when the supposed landlord asked her to send a security deposit via Western Union, as they were currently out of the state. Upon further research, the woman found another listing elsewhere for the same home that said the property was for sale, not rent.
She checked with the broker listed on the newly discovered ad and was informed the property was not for rent.
Police discovered the Craigslist ad had been removed.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 20
4 p.m. A man visiting from Seattle lost his wallet.
Inquiries revealed it had not been found in any shops that he’d visited on Bainbridge, leading him to believe he’d lost it while sitting on a bench outside of Columbia Bank.
He noticed it missing on the ferry ride back to Seattle.
The man called to freeze his credit cards. Also in the wallet was a Seattle University lanyard, room key and about $100 in cash.
