The Bainbridge Island Genealogical Society has chosen Rebecca Judd, manager of the Bainbridge Public Library, as the nonprofit’s Volunteer of the Year.
The Washington State Genealogical Society invites society members to select an outstanding volunteer. This year, the Bainbridge group selected Judd, recognizing her exceptional and consistent support of the goals and operations of BIGS.
She received her certificate at the library staff meeting on Sept. 9. Her recognition was shared with the Kitsap Regional Library Board of Trustees and the Bainbridge Island Library Board.
Judd has been a long-standing and consistent supporter of BIGS. She partnered with BIGS to host an open house for three years to celebrate Family History month, where members of the public were able to come to the library during the open house and spend time with a BIGS mentor. Judd and the library staff also provided program registration assistance and access to genealogical reference materials.
For last year’s Family History Month, Judd approached the Bainbridge society and suggested a “Book-a-Genealogist” program where members of the public could schedule time to meet with a BIGS mentor at the library during the course of the month.
She also encourages library staff to refer genealogical research questions to BIGS on an on-going basis and is ever ready to help BIGS solve any problems or concerns when they use library space for meetings.
