Johnnie Lee Horner, 80, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016, at home in Kingston.
She was born April 8, 1936, in Cassville, Missouri, the daughter of William E. and Elisa Smith. She was married to Maxie Lee Horner June 10, 1956 in Cassville. They were married for 60 blissful years.
Johnnie received her bachelor’s degree in education from Idaho State College in Pocatello, Idaho. She taught elementary school in Buhl, Idaho and Battleground for more than 40 years.
She was an active member of the Bainbridge Island Methodist Church and the sisterhood of PEO, Philanthropic Educational Organization. She loved spending time with family, taking long walks with Max and their dogs, playing golf, partaking in outdoor activities and traveling after retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Maxie Lee Horner, Kingston; son, W. Scott Horner, Bainbridge Island; and grandson, Skylar Lee Horner, Seattle. She was preceded in death by a son, Amos Lee Horner in 1982; brother Sydney Smith in 2015; brother-in-law Glennon Horner in 2014; and daughter-in-law Debbie Horner in 2009.
A memorial service was held June 28 at Kiana Lodge, Poulsbo. A private burial ceremony will be at West End Cemetery in Buhl, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society and PEO.
