BAINBRIDGE – Registration for the upcoming 37th annual Grand Old Fourth fun run event is now open.
The family-friendly Bainbridge tradition has kicked off the Independence Day celebration for nearly 40 years now, and includes a 1-mile run/walk starting at 9 a.m., a 5K run/walk at 9:15 a.m. and a kids dash at 10:30 a.m.
All runs begin at Winslow Green, at the corner of Madison and Winslow. Early registration via www.bifunrun.com is encouraged, and all ages and abilities are welcome. Sing up now and help Bainbridge Youth Services reach its goal of having 1,000 participants this year. All proceeds go to BYS, which for more than 50 years has been a cornerstone in the community, offering free and confidential counseling, scholarships and job services to youth and teens.
The fun run T-shirts feature artwork by Bainbridge High School junior Matthew Derry this year. (He was the winner of the 2016 fun run art contest and also won last year’s contest).
Second- and third-place winners, respectively, were Anneke Karreman and Sawyer Blair. Nearly 80 entries were received.
This year’s event is dedicated to promoting the health of our community’s youth.
“Our ability to directly serve youth annually with more than 1,400 hours of free counseling would not be possible without the wonderful partnership between the sponsors and runners who support BYS and the services that so many youth and their families depend upon each year,” said Marina Cofer Wildsmith, BYS executive director.
