Annie Johns and Jeff Gibbs were married at Canopy Creek Farm in Miamisburg, Ohio on May 21, 2016, surrounded by family and friends.

A Northwest-inspired mist graced the outdoor gathering, breaking into sunshine as the ceremony began. The nuptials were followed by a barbecue dinner and dancing into the night.

The couple met a few weeks after entering the University of Washington during a gathering of Husky rowers, and they’ve never looked back since. Jeff was an incoming scholarship athlete with the national championship men’s rowing team, while Annie walked onto the women’s team.

Annie, daughter of Anne Ackenhusen and Mike Johns of Bainbridge Island, graduated from Bainbridge High School in 2008.

She earned a bachelor of science degree in aquatic and fishery sciences, with a minor in quantitative science, from the University of Washington in 2012. This was followed by a master of science degree in environmental toxicology and chemistry from Western Washington University in 2014.

Jeff, son of Debbie and Tom Gibbs of Cincinnati, Ohio, graduated from Cincinnati’s St. Xavier High School in 2008.

He received a bachelor of arts degree cum laude in biochemistry, with a minor in chemistry, from the University of Washington in 2012. For the next two years he studied Parkinson’s disease as a researcher at UW.

The couple’s attendants consisted of childhood, high school and college friends and siblings, including the bride’s sister, Micki Johns (BHS 2011), and the bride’s lifelong friend, Laura Hall (BHS 2008).

The officiant was Ric Geisler of Martinborough, New Zealand, Annie’s godfather.

The couple will continue to make their home in Toledo, Ohio, where Jeff is entering his third year of medical school at the University of Toledo. Annie works in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she serves as an environmental toxicologist and regional resource coordinator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
