Bainbridge fire commissioner steps down

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department is looking for a new fire commissioner. Commissioner Eileen McSherry announced her resignation from the board of commissioners late last month.
McSherry, who was elected to the Position 4 seat on the board in November 2013, was near the midway point of a six-year term.
In an email to Fire Chief Hank Teran, McSherry said time constraints with her daytime job had become a factor in her service on the board.
“Unfortunately my current job requires longer days and more unpredictable workloads than when I started. This makes my time less available to the position of commissioner than in the past,” McSherry wrote.
The fire department plans to review any letters of interest from citizens who would like to be appointed to the vacant position at the board’s meeting on May 12.
Commissioners hope to interview potential candidates at the board meeting on May 26 and make an appointment that night.
The appointee will serve until a new commissioner can be elected in November 2017.
