Friends of the Farms welcomes two new staff members to the organization, Heather Burger as executive director and Dina Madson as program manager.
Burger has lived and worked on Bainbridge Island for nearly two decades. She has significant experience in the not-for-profit world as a board member and volunteer executive director of Arms Around Bainbridge, where she has worked to develop a multi-year strategic plan and effective long-term organizational system.
Burger has also worked for almost 20 years with a nationally known consultant in the arts, providing research, developing project budgets, and evaluating and writing grants and RFPs. Additionally she has a background in real estate tax law, leases and building inspection services.
A chef who is deeply committed to local foods, she has catered major events and has her own food blog, More Please BI. When not working, cooking or writing you’ll find Burger in her wetsuit pursuing her passion for long-distance swimming in Puget Sound.
Madson has made her home on Bainbridge Island for the past 25 years. The majority of her career has been spent in the information technology field, with the most recent 17 years spent at Microsoft as a program manager on a variety of engineering teams.
After building her own home on Bainbridge, she has developed a range of construction skills and owns a general construction firm focusing on energy-efficient single family homes. She is a farmer herself, with a 7-acre farm that’s home to Jacob sheep, dwarf Nigerian goats, chickens and a large vegetable and flower garden.
