Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra has announced that the 2016 Young Artist Concerto Competition will be held Jan. 10, 2016 at Bainbridge Performing Arts. The competition is open to all instruments (instrumental and vocal) for young musicians ages 12 to 21, and the winner will have the opportunity to perform with BSO in June next year.
The competition application deadline is Thursday, Dec. 15. Visit www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org to download an application and to view the complete eligibility regulations and rules.
Applicants need not be residents of Bainbridge Island. Players of all instruments, including strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano, harp and voice are welcome to audition.
Acceptable works for the competition include single movements of concertos or single movement solo works between five and 20 minutes in length. Exceptions can be made, but must be approved by BSO officials in advance.
Voice applicants are welcome to audition with arias or solo works that fit the time requirements.
All applicants must have their works pre-approved for competition. This step is required to ensure feasibility by the BSO in regards to personnel, music procurement and preparation.
Interested parties are encouraged to contact Wesley Schulz at wschulz@bainbridgeperformingarts.org with questions and for selection approval.
