Alan Miller, an acclaimed professor of comparative religion, will lead the class, “Humanism: Religious, Non-religious, and Anti-religious” from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Nov. 2 and Nov. 9, at Cedars Center (284 Madrona Way NE, Suite 128, Winslow).
The class will explore this working definition of Humanism: “A philosophy or set of values that sees human experience and human destiny to be independent of or at least more important than God or the gods.” Religion and Humanism thus appear to be natural enemies, but is that necessarily so? The two sessions will first cover Humanism in historical perspective and then some challenges to Humanism.
