No time for a passive approach | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
Shortly after we moved to Bainbridge from Mount Desert Island in Maine, we decided to begin some large renovations to our recently purchased home. Finding a skilled carpenter who would allow me to function as a carpenter’s helper was not easy, but a good friend referred us to Ron Peltier.
One sunny day in 2012, sitting out on our deck during a lunch break, Ron, knowing that my wife and I had been involved with various environmental activities in other communities, mentioned that he was concerned about protecting our island’s natural resources — the most valuable capital we own.
Thus began a multi-year conversation that my wife and I continue to have with Ron on a whole range of issues — and the important role citizens play in addressing some of our sustainability challenges here on Bainbridge Island.
Always curious, interested in our point of view, even when it differs from his own, able and willing to adjust his thinking when presented with clear evidence, respectful of our sometimes too adamant stance or opinions, we have come to value his knowledge, tolerance and friendship.
Ron is sincere, approachable and steadfast in his search for a workable, environmentally responsible and sustainable vision of our island of which we can be proud. And we wholly support his candidacy for city council.
