Uglification of Bainbridge Island | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

Bainbridge Island activist and environmentalist Ron Peltier is running for a seat on the island’s city council. Ron’s candidacy is worthy of your time and attention.

The toxic environment created by previous city councils and the present charade of camaraderie have done little to foster, expand and safeguard the ideals that make Bainbridge Island unique.

As a lifelong resident of the island, Ron has an appreciation and understanding of what the island’s natural resources are and how to protect them. He has stated on numerous occasions that we cannot keep sacrificing our pastoral environment for rampant growth and development. Ron understands that the island is a designated single-source aquifer and that our supply of fresh water is not infinite. Ron has repeatedly called attention to the fact that the island’s infrastructure cannot keep pace with the rush of growth and development. Ron’s presence on our city council will provide much needed representation for island residents and a firm voice and vote for all that we hold dear about Bainbridge Island.

As you witness the continued clear cutting of trees, the approval of more and more dense growth and development, the absence of much needed bike lanes and the increase in traffic congestion, keep in mind that all of this occurs as a result of both the actions and inaction of our city government. Clearly an island steward is needed. I urge you to vote for Ron Peltier for city council.
