An accident that left a Bainbridge woman with life-threatening injuries remains under investigation, the Washington State Patrol reported late Friday.

Katherine E. Dunn, 71, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Friday afternoon after she was hit by a car while walking through the parking lot of a condominium complex on Harborview Drive Southeast with her two grandchildren.

The Washington State Patrol said Dunn was hit by a 2002 Lexus LS4 that was driven by a 91-year-old Bainbridge Island man.

Melton G. Bockman was backing out of a parking space under a carport when he hit Dunn and her 3-year-old grandson.

Dunn was pinned under the car in the accident, which happened at 3:14 p.m. Friday, and was extracted by firefighters after the Lexus was raised by nearby construction workers who rushed to the scene.

The 3-year-old boy was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with non-life-threatening injuries.

The boy’s older sister was not hurt.

The driver was also not injured in the accident.
