Dr. Susan Turner has been hired as the new health officer for the Kitsap Public Health District, the district announced Wednesday.

She replaces Dr. Scott Lindquist, who served as the district’s health officer from 2001 to September 2014.

Her first day in her new position will be Dec. 1.

“Dr. Turner has a wealth of experience, and a passion for public health,” said Patty Lent, chairwoman of the board for the Kitsap Public Health District.

“Dr. Turner has worked in communities with many of the same challenges we face in Kitsap County,” Lent said. “We are excited to see the positive impact she’s going to have on our community’s health as our new health officer.”

Turner will be the fourth health officer in the district’s 72-year history. A board-certified family physician, she has 22 years of experience as a health officer in Florida and most recently was the associate director/assistant health officer and medical director for the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County in Pensacola.

Turner has a bachelor of science degree in nutrition sciences and a master of science degree in sports science from the University of Washington.

She earned her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, and a master of public health degree from the University of West Florida in Pensacola.
