Washington voters rejecting Referendum 74 in first returns

Washington citizens were rejecting the state’s move to legalize same-sex marriages Tuesday with a 54-percent “no” vote in early vote returns.

The early results did not yet include King County.

If passed, Referendum 74 would reaffirm the state’s decision to legalize same-sex marriages.

In Kitsap County, R-74 was passing with a 52 percent “yes” vote.

Kitsap was only one of four counties passing R-74 in early vote returns.

Voters in Pierce, Pacific, Mason, Lewis, Cowlitz, Douglas, Lincoln, Benton, Franklin, Garfield, Ferry and Pend Oreille counties were rejecting the measure.

Voters in Jefferson, Island, San Juan counties were voting “yes.”
