Compline Choir announces break

The Bainbridge Men’s Compline Choir is taking a year off after two decades of lifting their voices in song.

“We need to take some time to assess our future, renew our energy and consider how we might want to reconvene in the future,” said director Bill Pelandini.

The group, founded in 1992, has sung the Office of Compline on the first Sunday evening of each month during October through May at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. The choir is composed of 16 men from Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap.

“I think we’ve only missed two services in all that time,”  Pelandini said.

Compline is the last of the eight traditional “offices,” short services sung in monastic communities for over a thousand years, and consists of sung psalms, versicles, responses, motets and prayer petitions.
