Symbiosis is key in our downtown | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

The Big Dig of 2011 was the most significant challenge to downtown Winslow’s retail establishments for decades. Earth-moving equipment, barricades closing off door access and lots of dirt wielded a near-death blow to downtown sales.

But two of our retailers thought outside the box and combined forces. Flowering Around (our downtown florist) and Phoenix Rising (long-time hair salon) combined their spaces when the salon moved into Flowering Around’s former coffee shop.

The salon’s addition of Aveda, an internationally known plant-based cosmetics line, was a perfect complement to the “natural” and “flower” themes — and their lobby provides a great venue for a number of events, most recently RePower’s commercial business presentation. What could be easier than being able to satisfy your hair styling and natural products and your floral and event flower needs at one location?

Best of all, both shops report an uptick in sales!

Thanks to Paulette and Ashley for being part of our vibrant downtown scene and reminding us that we can find everything we need in our local shops!
