Utility funds pay for groundwater study | Letters | Dec. 10

I would like to thank the City of Bainbridge Island Water Utility ratepayers for paying $339,024 for the USGS Groundwater Study for island aquifer studies. Very, very generous of you.
Other island ratepayers have contributed $217,000 to date from the Stormwater Fund.
No general funds were used.
I hope it hasn’t gone beyond notice of the City Council, our elected financial policy and oversight body, that the USGS Groundwater Study has nothing to do with the city’s stormwater drainage system – except they have a common (H2O) chemical element.
In 2011, another $141,900 is programmed from a non-designated utility fund for USGS Water Studies. It appears it’s going be the Stormwater Fund again.
Utilities are in dire need of repair, and it isn’t just pipes and culverts and treatment plants that need fixing.
