Numb to harvesting animals we raise to eat | Letters | Dec. 10

Thank you Ann Woodburn (“Severely disturbed by ‘cutesy’ turkey story,” Dec. 3) for bringing to our attention the inconsistency between loving animals and killing them to eat.

We are culturally indoctrinated to be numb when it comes to “harvesting” animals. Modern humans no longer need to kill animals to remain healthy. There are plenty of vegetable-based alternatives these days, so killing animals is done for our pleasure to taste their flesh.

Whether it is a cow, a chicken, a turkey or a pig, if it was your pet would you slaughter it and eat it in good conscience?
