194 households benefit from community effort | Letters | Dec. 10

The old adage, “cold hands, warm heart,” is no more evident than the incredible volunteer efforts to get a Thanksgiving meal into the hands of those struggling through a particularly mean fall.
Our gratitude to the pre-schools, schools (BHS, Sakai and Ordway – doing school-wide food drives), churches, organizations and businesses (did your pet get their pictures taken at Skookum?) that sponsored events to help put food on the table for 194 households.
Special thanks to Ann Browning and Jen Campbell for organizing the first annual Turkey Trot, which supported our food bank with more than $3,500 of proceeds.
Your generosity, plus the incredible work our staff and volunteers working outside and with no heat in our building, offered food and good cheer to those who most needed it. And thanks to Town & Country sponsored holiday cards, which resulted in over $13,000 of credit we can use to purchase food to fill our shelves.
Our thanks also to Michael Rosenthal who, with his team, demonstrated what spirit of community looks like as he worked at both making sure food got into the hands of hungry neighbors and sponsoring the Turkey Trot.
