Court, parking decisions irrational, unjustified | Letters | Nov. 5

The proposed $50 parking fine is unjustified and the relocation of the court to Poulsbo is irrational.
The ticket fee is unjustified because the city should bring the costs of its services in line with real revenues, not by an arbitrary increase [why not $100?] in fines and hiring still more police.
The city should be reducing the size or cost of island government instead of increasing its punitive powers.
The most irrational aspect of relocating the court from Bainbridge (23,000 residents) to Poulsbo (9,000 residents) is that the real cost to the citizens will be many multiples of the actual savings to the city.
Perhaps the council should look at shorter hours, cheaper locations and cheaper bailiff solutions to keep the court on the island.
I look forward to seeing how the council votes on these two issues.
