Money first, then it’s about safety | Letters | Oct. 29

Imagine my surprise upon reading the Oct. 22 story about the proposed move of the Bainbridge Island Municipal Court to Poulsbo.

Mayor Bob Scales claims that the move isn’t about dollars but rather about safety: “This is not a business proposition. This is about people’s lives.”

Yet during the many weeks this issue has been publicly debated, Mayor Scales has consistently emphasized dollars, and not once emphasized safety.

Ah, but then the owner of the building offered to lower the rent, and there was no longer a compelling monetary argument to be made. Hence plan B.

Come on Mayor Scales, this is a discussion about an important civic matter, not a game of whack-a-mole.

Speaking as your constituent, this sort of bait and switch tactic is totally unacceptable.
