City should leave Strawberry Plant Park as it is | Letters | June 4

As the date approaches for work to begin on Cannery Cove (Strawberry Plant at the end of Weaver Road), I think it is important for island residents to be aware of the plans for this park.
The plan to remove the waterfront meadows, parking areas and two-thirds of an acre of shore could begin as early as July 15 at a cost of approximately $950,000 with the city’s share being over $200,000.
Not only is this further eroding the bequest of John Nelson, it is reducing much needed public access to the waterfront.
With the current financial situation at City Hall, shouldn’t this project be reconsidered and the quarter of a million dollars be better spent?
