Transportation 2040

Plan turns SR-305 into a parking lot

Under Transportation 2040, Poulsbo will get a four-lane divided highway to the Agate Pass bridge. The quaint character and the island’s Comprehensive Plan will be maintained when SR-305 is preserved as a two-lane highway. However, they neglected to provide a four-lane bridge across Agate Pass! (They did add bicycle lanes).

The result will be a six-mile traffic jam at rush hour. Cross-island traffic will be almost impossible without overpasses.

This ridiculous situation can be avoided by having the four-lane highway go to Suquamish where it would connect to a high-speed ferry terminal. Three small 50-knot, 50-car auto ferries with a departure every 10 minutes would require minimal holding area.

This is not rocket science in 2010 let alone in 2040 and it would leave B.I. with a two-lane SR-305 with the same Agate Pass Bridge and a quaint conventional ferry far into this century.
