Emergency aid critical; vote for better service | Letters | Oct. 23

Whether you are old or young, probably one day you will desperately need the amazing services of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department and its ancillary, the EMS. What a group of knowledgeable, strong, kind, thoughtful men and women they are.

In the past 10 months, alas, my 92-year-old husband and I have benefited from their expertise and the swift delivery by ambulance to emergency rooms.

Recently, as we left the emergency room at Virginia Mason in Seattle, there were three ambulances and more beginning to stack up.

The driver of one from Bainbridge told us they were so busy that day, Bainbridge had to borrow emergency services from Poulsbo.

We are fortunate to live within a short distance from Madison Avenue’s fire house.

If there is any question in your mind about the EMS levy in the coming election, please vote “yes” to ensure this same swift service for your friends and neighbors in the north and south ends of the island.

Below are the names of some of the men and women who helped us and to whom we will always be indebted:

Derrick Baker, Peter Redinger, Christofer Ruddick, Sequoia (Tree) Jones, Chris Johnston, Paul Topper, Michael Mosley, Chris Lusk, Garret Kimzes, Dan Morrow, Scott Isenman, Linda Holt and two angels, EMS men Fred Shultz and Michael Nelson. On a snowy Dec. 21st they took me to Bremerton when nothing moved in Seattle and few cars were on the roads in Kitsap.
