To vote “No” on the EMS levy on the Nov. 3 ballot because the Bainbridge Island Fire District has placed this on the ballot “without any real notice to the community” is ludicrous.
I am sure there are scores of residents of Bainbridge who have literally had their lives saved by the prompt response of the EMS to a medical emergency. I know what I’m talking about because I am one of those saved.
About two years ago I suffered a stroke. Someone dialed 911, and within minutes the EMS team was there. Their skill and professionalism in treating the situation was flawless. When I arrived at the hospital, the neurologist noted that the team had done “all the right things.” Were it not for them, I and a great many others faced with a medical emergency would not be here today.
If the EMS requires funding to continue this level of service, then a “Yes” vote is mandatory.
