Single-payer shift would fix system | Letters | May 15

I have been a practicing primary care physician for 25 years. I have seen patients ruined by the inhumane “system” we have cobbled together in this country.

We need a single-payer system now. Sixty percent of physicians and over 60 percent of the population is in favor of a change.

Yet single-payer advocates cannot even get a seat at the table with the Senate Finance Committee to present this alternative to the dysfunction we now are saddled with.

Yet, the insurance CEOs, drug companies and business community are there while single-payer advocates are arrested. Is this a democracy or state capitalism?

Are we so sclerotic that we cannot stand up to the transparently self-interested corporate interests?

How many people will have to be bankrupted or die for this madness?
