Needed help, not rush to judgment | Letters | March 13

I had lived next door to the lady referred to in the letter dated Feb. 27 (“Neighbors should be more vigilant”) for 15 years. I was part of what was her very small circle of friends. I helped her with what I could, but she was a very proud woman.
If the neighbor had taken the time to ask what she could have helped with, she would have found several people trying to help. In the end, we prevailed on her family for help. It didn’t take much; she was ready to seek help. They have now taken her in and are helping with some medical problems.
Before you judge, ask some questions in your own neighborhood as to what is going on. Snooping after the fact is not the answer to helping anyone.
