Donations to support women’s shelters| Letters | Feb. 6

Thirty women, three children and one teenager working for community service hours, gathered on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Camp Yeomalt on Bainbridge Island to sort, clean and package donated jewelry for the Women’s Shelter Jewelry Project.
Volunteers opened boxes and bags of used jewelry collected throughout January.
Ten Bainbridge Island stores graciously displayed the blue collection boxes and accepted the generous contributions of the community.
The cleaned jewelry will be donated to women’s shelters in King, Kitsap and Pierce counties.
I want to thank the volunteers, merchants, those who donated jewelry, Seattle Metals Guild and Bainbridge Island Metro Parks for making this event successful.
The collection, sorting and distribution of more jewelry will happen again in January next year.
The Bead Garden on Bainbridge Island will be the year-round donation place.
With the collective efforts of many, the spirits of women in shelters will be lifted.
