On the ferry back home, Bevan Taylor hung out with the teammates who accompanied him to the state meet and relaxed.

The senior co-captain achieved his goal as he finished 25th at the 3A state cross country meet Saturday in Pasco at the Sun Willows Golf Course. Taylor recorded a time of 17:01, a second ahead of Auburn Riverside’s Tyler Pavel.

“It wasn’t the best race I could have had, but I’m definitely pleased with it,” he said.

Seattle Prep’s Max O’Donoghue-McDonald won his second straight 3A title with a stellar time of 15:32.

The Panthers finished second to North Central in Spokane for the team title.

Taylor said the field was tough.

“I ran with a lot of good kids,” he said. “But I’m happy. It’s definitely a big improvement from last year.”

He said the weather was outstanding – “No wind, no rain, good temperature,” – but the course was a bit tough to run on.

“Running on a totally grass course is a lot harder,” he said. “It takes the energy out of you way more than (a course like) Lower Woodland.”

Despite the conditions, he said he’s fine with where he ended up.

“It was cool to be there,” he said.

His teammate Emily Farrar finished 54th with a time of 20:54, four seconds ahead of Mercer Island’s Haley Piper.

Squalicum’s Bronwyn Crossman won the girls’ individual title.
