Boys golfers split home, road tilts

The Bainbridge golf team avenged their home loss to O’Dea on Monday, but dropped another match to them on Wednesday.

Jamie Neill was the medalist at Wing Point on Monday, shooting a one under 34.

Austin Hurt contributed a 36, while Paul DeBarros and Zack Cram both shot 37. Kyle Hurt rounded out the scoring with a 40, as Bainbridge won with 104 Stableford points to O’Dea’s 91 and Lakeside’s 84.

At Jackson Municipal on Wednesday, Bainbridge finished third behind the Fighting Irish and the Seattle Prep Panthers with 92 Stableford points.

O’Dea golfer Sandy Vaughn set the pace with a 31 to medal.

Hurt and DeBarros were the top golfers for the Spartans as both shot 40.

The Spartans had an easier time last Wednesday as they defeated the Ingraham Rams 101-58 on the road.

Neill was the medalist for the match as he shot an even 36. DeBarros and Cram shot 38 each, while Hurt rounded out the scoring with a 39.

Ricky Ulloa’s 42 in the exhibition match wasn’t counted in the score, but it was good enough to beat Ingraham’s leading scorer.

The Spartans will play their final home match of the season at Wing Point when Nathan Hale and Ingraham come over on the ferry on Monday.

Tee time is at 3 p.m.

Spartan girls stay the course

The Spartan girls golf team won both their matches this week against some top talent.

Katie Saucier won the medal at their home meet at Wing Point on Tuesday as she shot a 37 to score 44 points, but Katrina Hegge, a freshman from Seattle Prep, tied with her for the medal on Thursday at Jackson Park when both girls shot a 39.

But the girls team was able to defeat Holy Names and Lakeside on Tuesday as Melanie Trygg (35 points); Rachel Frease (33 points) and Marley Horne (32 points) shot well to score 144 Stableford points. Holy Names had 130 while Lakeside scored 116 points.

Saucier birdied the first hole and parred six others to shoot one over.

Trygg had three pars, while Frease and Horne had two apiece.

On Thursday, it was a different story as both the Cougars and the Panthers shot well, but Frease and Horne had three pars each while Trygg and Ryan Nottingham contributed to help the Spartans come out on top by just seven points.

The Spartans will host their last home match at Wing Point on Tuesday when they face Rainier Beach, Nathan Hale and Ingraham.

Tee time is at 3 p.m.
