GK play strong in 7-4 triumph.

Team Ray stung the Wolverines of Bellevue, 7-4, in a showdown at Ray Williamson Pool Thursday.

The Spartans controlled the pool from the first goal – goalkeeper Valerie MacKinnon, outstanding on the day, came up with the game’s only assist to open scoring.

MacKinnon found Heather Schuler with a nifty full pool pass, with Schuler skipping the opening tally into the corner.

The Sparts were efffective on both ends, driving to a 2-0 first quarter lead, then breaking out for a 5-0 halftime score.

“The game was not as close as the score indicates,” said coach Jeff Clark who subbed liberally through the last half of the match, keeping Bellevue at bay in the game and the standings. “The girls rose to the occasion. It gave us room to try different things.”

Anne Scott led with four goals and five steals, while Erin Clune and Chelsea Croxford each scored a goal apiece. MacKinnon sparkled, tripling her steals average with seven in the match.
