Robinson vs. Wade for parks — Candidate profiles

Program analyst Kirk Robinson and architect John Wade are running for the position 5 post on the proposed Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park and Recreation District board.
Robinson serves on the board of the present park district; the new board will only be created if voters approve formation of a metropolitan park district on the Sept. 14 ballot.

Civic Involvement: Bainbridge Island Parks District commissioner, Parks recreational programs volunteer, Parks capital facilities committee member, Bainbridge Island Basketball Association girls basketball coach, former board member and coach for Bainbridge Island Little Leagues, Audubon Society volunteer.
Why he’s running: “I’ve served on the parks’ executive board for 18 months. I’d like to see the metro district pass because it sets up a better future for parks facilities and programs. I’m well-suited to make this happen.”

Education: bachelor’s degree in architecture, Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Blacksburg, Va.).
Civic Involvement: Bainbridge Island Swim Club volunteer
Why he’s running: “Youth activities need a strong voice. Our facilities are not up to par with facilities in the Kitsap area. Youth and other people who use our facilities say these places are not being maintained. I’m running to express their views.”
